rhythm, rapture and romance (2022)

Tra-ta-ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta-ta, ta-ta,... always in 3 beats, 2 beats
"Breath, voice, movement", these are the three key elements of the piece SOMATIC TRATATA by  Hannah Shakti Bühler and Simon Mayer. Through the repetitive rhythm inspired by the southern Italian tarantism traditions, the bodies of the two dancers in the piece dance themselves into a trance-like state. With the help of self-induced cognitive trance, this state can be initiated and ended at any time. The invisible interpersonal space becomes a playing field. In which the boundaries of body, psyche and spirit break up, flow into one another and are re-explored. Persistent movement, rhythm and breathing bring the dancers' bodies in creative states in which something new is created. Couple dances from folk cultures serve as a starting point for the two lovers to playfully transform their gender roles and identities, thereby breaking down and redefining archetypes and stereotypes. The audience experiences a contemporary performative ritual, a dance concert that combines traditions (from southern Italian tarantism to alpine folk cultures) with contemporary dance.
